Dirty Macs x Dirty Sanchez
My first encounter with veganism was going to see Benjamin Zephaniah at a poetry reading in Pont-y-Pŵl. I was about 10 at the time (this was a loooooong time ago!) and Mum told me that this poet was a vegan.
“What’s that?” I asked. “Someone who doesn’t eat or use any animal products,” Mum replied. “Look at his shoes.”
I looked at his shoes. They were a kind of canvass trainer. Not leather, like mine. “That’s why
vegans always have wet feet,” Mum added.
I have gained more knowledge since then, and my Wills Vegan Store boots definitely keep my feet dry (thankfully!) but it’s celebrities like these that lined the path for Thibault and I to take the journey from being omnivores, to being vegetarian, plant-based and then, finally, vegan.
One of those inspirational celebs was our very own Cardiffian Matt Pritchard! Thibault grew up watching Dirty Sanchez in France, and was already a big fan. Matt’s Dirty Vegan Another Bite was instrumental in teaching us how to cook without dairy - the Picnic Feast is especially yum!
It was super great then that Thibault got to return the favour and teach him how to cook
macarons. Check out his vlog!
